Her Story: She drifts effortlessly with the turbulent waves despite going against the current, her head held high, her flowing white mane dancing gracefully in the wind. Unfazed by the towering waves before her, she exudes both fearlessness and calm, confident in her ability to navigate any challenges that arise. Yet, she is also content to ride the waves to the next leg of her journey.

Your Story: "Flow Rider" is about strength in surrender and trust. Life often presents challenges that require you to fight hard, but at times, it can flow more gently, inviting you to embrace a more relaxed approach. For those who relish control, this artwork is a reminder that sometimes you must simply ride the waves and trust the process. There is a profound courage and beauty in yielding to the natural course of events and finding peace in letting go of that control.

My Story: When I first envisioned "Flow Rider," I pictured her in a portrait orientation, surrounded by dark, angry clouds on one side and beautiful rainbow reflections on the other—a yin and yang scenario. But as I started layering the textured paste, something shifted.

Instead of soaring through the sky, she found herself in the ocean. True to her name sake, I decided to go with the flow and let her story unfold naturally. I wanted the ocean to reflect her depth, so I built up the textures in subtle curves, gradually bringing her to life with hues of blue, green and white. A big frothy wave became the focal point, capturing the energy of Mother Nature. Yet, amid this power, I wanted her to feel like she had thrown caution to the wind—calm yet determined—beneath a warm, dusky orange sky.

One of the joys of being a mixed media artist is the freedom to experiment. For me, creating isn’t always about knowing the destination. It’s about trusting the process and letting the art reveal itself in its own time.
